THE WINTON MAN
The WINTON man is an executive in the business world, who is around 35-45 years old. It’s not uncommon for the WINTON man to be a younger CEO or a top executive in a Fortune 500 company. With WINTON’s home base in Chicago, IL, the WINTON man loves the city lifestyle and appreciates the fast-pace and competitive passion of the business world. This man may or not be a family man, but the WINTON man cares about his status in society as well as his annual six-figure income. The WINTON man is no stranger to luxury—whether it be his vintage sports car, a five-star dining experience, or the view from his penthouse overlooking the city—this man exudes class and elegance and longs for the historic past to be paired with the current modern lifestyle. According to a recent “Ask Men” article published in 2013, a man sent in an email to this online magazine claiming: “Whatever happened to pocket watches? I want one within the $2,500-$5,000 range, but I can't seem to locate a reputable dealer. No one seems to carry these anymore” (2013).
Clearly this shows that today’s modern businessman wants to own what seems like an antique treasure—the pocket watch.
Men more than others hold a special sentiment toward pocket watches. Since they’re not seen as much today as they were in the 1950’s and earlier, any pocket watch still in pristine condition will go on the market via auction. John Reardon, senior vice president and specialist head of the watch department at Christie’s, an auctioning company, said: “We’ve seen a renewed interest in wearing pocket watches for special events, such as weddings or anniversaries.” He also explains one of WINTON’s concepts beautifully: “It is a way to honor the past, the present, and the future because pocket watches bought today can be tomorrow’s heirlooms” (“Pocket Watches for Today’s Man”). Famous pocket watches like Babe Ruth’s ‘lost’ 1923 14-karat gold World Series pocket watch will be auctioned in New York in 2014 starting at $750,000 (2014). Clearly the pocket watch is loved and cherished by many, and to fulfill historic significance and sentiment common with any pocket watch, WINTON will offer their customers the choice to engrave their pocket watch, to ultimately make it their own timeless treasure.
